Youngeconomists.it

Youngeconomists.it is the portal of a group of young Italian economists who are passionate about economics.

Its origins date back to the late 1990s, when six friends, Crespi, Denni, Feduzi, Massetti, Pensieroso and Sbrana, then all undergraduate students at the University of Rome III, started regular meetings for discussing about economic policy, theory and methodology. Those meetings took place in Vermicino, a little village nearby Rome, from which the group named itself “Il Circolo di Vermicino” (Vermicino’s group).

The group split up soon after all its members took their Laurea degree, as some of them went abroad for postgraduate studies. Still a link remained. Topics were discussed via e-mail, while new experiences brought about new ideas and more maturity. A website was conceived, collecting the homepage of the members.

As of 2005, the decision was taken to enlarge the group to the many young Italian economists they had been meeting all around the world in the meantime. The reference to the Vermicino’s group was dropped, whereas a more encompassing name was chosen: Youngeconomists.it, meant to be the portal of a group of new Italian economists. This “enlargement” is an ongoing process, with new faces and new experiences continuously joining the group.

Most recently, a blog was opened, where policy articles are regularly posted and commented.
